Flores Travel Guide

Best known as the jumping off point for the Komodo National Park and liveaboard dive boats, Flores is slowly emerging as Indonesia’s next big thing in its own right and deservedly so. With its mountainous topography, smoking volcanos, palm fringed beaches, traditional villages and lush rice fields, Flores is an adventurer’s paradise.

Noticeably devoid of tourists, Flores has been likened to Bali forty years ago but the comparison ends there. Perched on the western tip of Flores overlooking a pretty harbour and the Komodo Islands, Labuan Bajo is the main transit point for travellers. As such, it is about the only place in Flores with better than basic accommodation, a handful of surprisingly good restaurants and dive shops. Yet it retains the sleepy, dusty street charm of a frontier town.
